Study Study Study!

"Study, Study, Study" is the title and topic of this week's newsletter. I've mentioned it three times to emphasise its importance. As a KDP author, it's crucial to keep studying. Study Amazon, study the search results, study your own and others' books – their cover designs, interior designs, A+ content, descriptions, and keywords.

This is something I've always done throughout my KDP journey and continue to do today. Often, I'll search for some of my books on Amazon and ask myself why they are ranked where they are. I'll find others’ newly published books with one or two sales occupying a valuable spot on the first page, so I'll study them. I ask myself questions like, "What have they done to get there? What did they do right? Did they use ads to rank? Is it their description? Is Amazon favouring them for some reason?"

Such curiosity helps you figure things out and understand what works and what doesn’t. It gives you valuable experience that you can't gain through videos on YouTube or other content.

What does my studying routine look like?

There are two types of studying and learning that I do. The first type involves actively watching content on YouTube and learning that way. A lot of valuable knowledge and insight can be gained by watching these videos. And they're absolutely free to watch! Don’t listen to anyone who tells you that you need to buy this or that course to be successful. Take it from someone who’s been in this business for over four years; everything you need to learn about KDP is available for free on YouTube.

The second type of studying, which this article discusses and I've just described, involves letting my mind wander, becoming curious, and studying Amazon and KDP.

My KDP day consists of around 3-4 hours, of which I spend about 1 hour learning and studying. One thing that’s important to keep in mind, though, is that no amount of learning and studying on their own can make you successful. You must be active in your KDP endeavour and keep publishing books. This is the utmost important thing for success.

What did I get up to this week with KDP?

I uploaded a book my designer created for me and I created A+ content for it
I published in a log book niche. Log book niches are becoming more and more competitive and I had to find a way to significantly differentiate my cover to make it stand out in the niche
I requested a cover design update from my designer for a previously best-selling book of mine. The book is no longer selling as it used to, so I'm thinking an update to the cover design may help bring it back to life
I watched several KDP-related videos on YouTube to stay on top of the latest stuff. Here are some of them:

My favourite video this week is by none other than Danny (4th link). I learn so much by watching his videos, and in this particular one, he discusses the income he's made so far from colouring books under a pen name he shares on his channel. In this video, he also mentions his low ad spend, which has got me thinking about my own ad spend. It's quite high in comparison, and perhaps I should look for ways to reduce it.

Books I read/listened to this week:

I'm still listening to 'The Diary of a CEO: The 33 Laws of Business and Life' by Steven Bartlett. In this book, he discusses 33 laws essential for success in business. I found this book so amazing that I also ordered the hardback version of it. I recommend it to anyone seeking success in any business venture.
